Trading goalscontract · 5 constraints

Trade against the rule set, not the hope.

A trading goal is not a sentence like 'make 5% this month.' It is a contract with conditions: the account, the window, the target, the risk limits, the daily loss rule, the consistency rule, the minimum activity, and the evidence needed before the result means anything. Tradeways turns that contract into live progress you can actually review.

Start with one account, one period, and the rule most likely to break first.

Five ways to fail

A prop-firm style target is not one number. It is five rules in parallel.

Tradeways evaluates each constraint in its own track and lets the worst one decide the verdict. One green number can never overrule a guardrail that has already been crossed.

  1. 01A profit target can look healthy while the daily loss limit is one bad session away from breach. Tradeways keeps the target and the guardrails visible together.
  2. 02The current status is not just green or red. A goal can be on track, at risk, breached, achieved, still forming, or blocked by insufficient evidence.
  3. 03That matters because early results lie. Three lucky trades should not look like a proven month, and a small drawdown should not hide a broken constraint.
Define the contract

Set goals that match the account you are actually trading.

Different accounts have different jobs. A funded challenge, a live growth account, a strategy test, and a recovery month should not share the same target. Tradeways ties every goal to one account and one window so the evaluation stays clean.

Three clauses · one contract
  • Clause I · performance

Performance targets that know their window

Track net P&L, win rate, profit factor, trade count, trading days, or equity milestones against a fixed, recurring, rolling, or open period. The target is always evaluated against the account and time range it belongs to.

    WINDOW · 01–31 MARFIXEDTARGETEQUITY+ $1,840 / $3,000
  • Clause II · risk

Risk limits that protect the account

Define max daily loss, max drawdown, max loss per trade, and consecutive-loss limits. A goal can measure what you want to reach and the exact line you cannot afford to cross.

    LIMIT $750SAFEAT RISKBREACHDAILY LOSS · TODAY−$420
  • Clause III · discipline

Discipline goals that make review visible

Add constraints for consistency and journal completion so process work appears beside performance. A month with profit but no review discipline should not look complete.

The worst constraint wins

A profit can be real and the goal can still be lost.

Tradeways evaluates the whole constraint bundle. If the drawdown line is crossed, the verdict is breached — even if the P&L looks like a celebration. That is the difference between a result and a goal that holds up.

Net P&L · Marchtarget hit
+$3,820

Looks like a celebration. Net profit reads green. The +$2,500 monthly target was cleared on day 28.

TRAIL LIMIT · PEAK − $2,000PEAK · DAY 10BREACH · DAY 14DAY 1DAY 30EQUITYTRAILING LIMIT
Goal status: breached

The challenge ends here. The +$3,820 does not matter — the rule did.

PROOF · 01

The worst constraint wins

A goal is a bundle. If the profit target is progressing but the drawdown rule is breached, the goal should not celebrate. Tradeways evaluates the whole constraint set, not just the nicest number.

PROOF · 02

Early data gets treated carefully

Insufficient samples, missing journal days, and short periods are flagged so the dashboard does not turn thin evidence into false confidence.

PROOF · 03

Account windows stay clean

Goals are account-based, so a monthly live-account plan does not get mixed with a test account, prop challenge, or old strategy experiment.

PROOF · 04

History remains explainable

Recurring goals can preserve closed-period snapshots with the constraints and results in force at the time, so edits later do not erase what the period actually meant.

The status vocabulary

Reduce trading reality to a green bar and you lose the read.

Every constraint reports its own state. The goal carries the worst one to the surface so you act on the real situation, not the friendliest number.

Review the pressure

Status that matches trading reality

A period can be pending, in progress, on track, at risk, achieved, breached, or not applicable for a specific constraint. The status explains the state instead of reducing the work to a generic progress bar.

EVIDENCE

Warnings when the read is not trustworthy yet

Win rate, profit factor, consistency, and journal goals can all be misleading with too little evidence. Tradeways flags that uncertainty so early numbers do not become fake conviction.

PERIODS

Periods that fit the work

Use fixed windows for challenges, recurring windows for weekly or monthly process, rolling windows for recent-form checks, and open windows for longer account milestones.

  • pendingwindow has not opened
  • in progressrunning inside limits
  • on trackpace beats the target
  • at riskguardrail is close

worst row →goal · at risk
Three rows green. One row at risk. The goal reports at risk — because a goal is only as healthy as its weakest constraint.
Prop firm monitoring

Watch a funded challenge the way the firm watches it.

Prop accounts almost never fail on the profit target. They fail on the daily loss, the trailing drawdown, or the consistency rule — usually on a day that looked like a normal session. Tradeways turns the challenge into a live constraint sheet so every rule is monitored in parallel, and the verdict reflects what the firm sees, not just what the P&L says.

Built so the rule that ends the challenge stops being the rule you forgot.

  • One green session can still end the challenge if a single guardrail crosses its line.
  • Tradeways flags the rule closest to breach, not the one that looks loudest.
  • Snapshots preserve the phase so a passed challenge stays explainable months later.

Common uses

Use goals when the account needs rules before it needs motivation.

The feature works for prop-firm constraints, personal risk plans, monthly execution standards, and any account where the real failure is usually a broken guardrail, not a missing ambition.
